The most important thing I can do to get my school year off to a good start is to dedicate the coming school year to the Lord. Seek His Kingdom First Jesus promised that if I seek first His Kingdom, then everything I truly need will be added to me. No good thing will the Lord withhold from me! We like to gather as a family and pray for the year ahead. That includes everyone. Dad, Mom, teens, and littles all pray. This is not a Hallmark moment; it is a battle in the heavenly realms. Prayer Philippians 4 reminds us that instead of worrying, we can present all our requests to God. He will not only answer, but guard our minds and hearts with His peace. You see, Ephesians 6 reveals to us that prayer is a weapon of warfare for the Christian. God answers prayer! Dedicate the coming school year to the Lord, but don’t stop there. Include Jesus in every school day. Bring every problem to Him throughout the year, from difficulty memorizing multiplication tables to constant bickering between siblings. Surrender to Succeed We will never have it all together and God knows that. He just calls us to follow Him. We can do nothing apart from Jesus we are told in John 15. That includes homeschooling. Yet, if we abide in Jesus and His Word abides in us, He will produce beautiful fruit in our lives. He will do a deep work in all of our lives is we are humble and teachable before Him. Surrendering to Him, trusting Him, yielding, resting, staying attached to, making our selves at home in Jesus is the secret to successful joyful homeschooling. . Do you feel apprehensive about the new school year> Don't worry. In our weakness, His strength is made perfect. Keep your eyes on Jesus and allow Him to be the strength of your life and homeschooling each day. Don’t say to the Lord, “Don’t worry. I’ve got this. I can handle it on my own" because you really can't homeschool successfully apart from Jesus. Stay Focused on Jesus Keep your eyes on Jesus! Whether we feel confident or fearful, we need His help. He is a fountain of wisdom, the source of all true education. And He is our perfect example of a great Parent-Teacher. I love reading the Gospels and seeing how Jesus taught and cared for His disciples. He is our perfect example. When you have amazing days, stop and thank Him for His blessings. When you have days that are really hard, thank Him for His blessings and cry out for help! So this year, as you post the schedules on the homeschool wall next to the sparkling clean bookshelves, while everyone’s school tote is organized with what each student needs for the coming year, stop and thank the Lord for His love and for the amazing ministry of homeschooling He has called you to. Jesus loves you. He is with you. He has a wonderful plan for this year. Don’t miss out on it. Dedicate this year to the Lord and stay focused on Him. You will have a great year!
