My favorite curriculum: living books and classic literature. I love books! Our homeschooling is centered on timeless novels and works. We love to snuggle up and read a good book like Swiss Family Robinson or A Christmas Carol aloud. Everyone in our family is always in the middle of a good book. It might be an inspirational classic like Hinds Feet on High Places. Or a Golden Age cozy mystery by Agatha Christie or G.K. Chesterton. It might be a well-worn book that's been read over and over again like Ben Hur or Little Women. We love books! However, we had wasted time reading some poorly written novels or books with unwholesome content. Over the years, I have weeded out the bad, discovered hidden gems in used book stores, and put together my own reading lists for my children to read whatever they want to read. I have lined my bookshelves with these living books and novels. And I am always updating and adding to these lists. Where to Find These ListsI would love to share these books with you, just as other homeschool moms have shared their favorites with me. Hop on over to JoyfulandSuccessfulHomeschooling.com and visit the Free Reading Lists Page here. You will find all kinds of reading lists that you can download for Free. Some people just bookmark the page so when they are shopping at a homeschool convention, used book sale, or in a bookstore, they can pull up the lists on their cell phones. You don't have to sign up for anything or give me your email. Just download and enjoy. I have divided the lists up this way: Preschool, Early Readers, Children, Young Adults, High School & Adult. There are several specialty lists like "Authors Boys Love," "Authors Girls Love," "Christian Classics," and lists devoted to different authors and series. There are also specialized lists like "Classic American Literature & Works," "Classic British Literature & Works," and "Classic Western Literature & Works." Books are very important to me. I spend more money on books than textbooks, workbooks, or school supplies. Books are my most valuable educational tools. Homeschooling with Delightful BooksI have used textbooks and workbooks, but the majority of my schooling has been done with classic literature and living books that delight us all. I even teach high school with living books. You can check out the courses I've created using living books here. There have been so many great books over the years that we can never hope to read them all, but it is sure is fun to try! I hope you will enjoy our reading lists and that you will add more and more books to your home school. Until next time, Happy Homeschooling. Warmly, Meredith Curtis
