We are studying Africa this month in our homeschool geography co-op, so we kicked the month off with a feast from Africa. We each chose a dish from a different African country and had a blast trying some very different foods. "What are you doing?" my daughter Jenny Rose asked me as I stirred a large glob of peanut butter into a pan of soup stock and half-n-half. I laughed. "I'm making peanut butter soup." She scrunched up her nose and made a face. "Do you want to try some?" "Um, um, I'm not sure," she admitted. Along with the peanut butter soup from South Sudan, I made Bobotie from South Africa. What is Bobotie? Well, it's almost like a meatloaf with almonds, dried apricots, and raisins in it. Very unique, yet delicious. In fact, most of the food we ate was unusual for us. The combinations were unique. It was an adventure! My husband stopped by to visit and filled up his plate. He loved the Egyptian Beef Stew with Okra. My favorite: Crunchy Bananas. They were sweet and yummy. Earlier in the morning, the children had shared their reports on countries in Africa. One family talked about South Africa, another talked about Kenya, and a third family reported on Morocco. I love learning about other countries! Tasting the food from other countries is so much fun, too! If you would like to try some dishes from other nations around the world, I have created a cookbook just for you. Starting in North America, you will taste dishes from Canada, Mexico, El Salvador, and the United States. From there, we head to countries in the Caribbean, South America, Europe, African, Asia, Australia, and Oceania. What fun! You will make Bobo Tea from Taiwan, Kiwi Dip from New Zealand, Easy Paella from Spain, Lomo Saltado from Peru, and Cracked Conch from the Bahamas. Each country has a page with its flag, capital, exciting sites to see, and a list of delicious food to try. It is a great addition to any geography curriculum. Travel God's World Cookbook is available at Amazon. The E-book is available at PayHip or Currclick. If you're like me, you want to travel the world, see every country, and taste their best dishes.
