When we get together with other homeschool parents, we talk about all kinds of things related to homeschooling: Why we homeschool. Our philosophy of homeschooling. What curriculum we are using. Our homeschool co-ops and field trips. How are children are growing in godly character. All of that is wonderful! I love talking about all those things! However. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that love is the heart of homeschooling, it's what motivates us, it's why we sacrifice. We homeschooling because we love our children. We homeschool to express love to our children. We homeschool because we love God and want to teach our children to love Him, too. Just as the heart pumps life to the whole body, love brings life to our home and our home school. Love is all about people, building them up, doing what is best for them. Love is all about serving, speaking life, and noticing all those wonderful things about someone. As we lavish love on our children, they will feel blessed and built up. As we make time to tell our children how much we love them and all those wonderful things we appreciate about them, they will flourish. We can tell a lot about a person's heartbeat by taking their pulse. The pulse is the heartbeat. It can be heard at the heart and at various other places in the body like the wrist, the top of the foot, and on the side of the neck. Let's take our spiritual pulse. Where is the love? Is love flowing from you to your children or is it being blocked by anger and frustration? Is love flowing from your children to you? Is love flowing between your children? Love is a gift from God. We love because He first loved us. We give our hearts back to the One who loved us first. Just like we respond to God's love, our children respond to our love. Let's lavish our children and husbands with love, affection, and affirmation this week. His love never fails, never gives up, never stops believing, never takes revenge. If you need your cup filled, take time this week to experience God's love for you in a fresh way. Enjoy His love so your children can enjoy yours. Your home school will never be the same!
