What delightful years I experienced in the first years of motherhood as God blessed me with baby girls first. As we walked to the playground, we would pass the big yellow school bus. My heart would freeze. I would miss my children so much when they started school. Just thinking about it made me so sad. Why should someone else get to spend all day with them? They were my babies! At the same time, I was passing the yellow school bus several days a week, I was meeting homeschool families at church who impressed me with their poise, confidence, good manners, and love for Jesus. I had to check out homeschooling. As I prayed about the possibility of homeschooling with my husband Mike, we felt God stirring our hearts. We sensed He was calling us to ministry! The ministry of educating our children. Wow! What a high calling and privilege! Excitement stirred in our hearts back in 1990 and the following year, we took the plunge. Since then, we have never looked back. Why do we homeschool? Because God called us to homeschool! We have been blessed to see so many blessings and benefits to homeschooling. We enjoy the joy of family unity. Our children are close to one another and to us. We laugh together, hang out together, and enjoy one another's company. My husband and children are my closest friends. We enjoy educational conversations. Our children love to learn. They like to discuss history, science, philosophy, worldviews, creation, apologetics, and other intellectual topics. We have some unusual conversations around the table! We enjoy reading aloud until my children are taller than I am. Even in high school, we snuggle up and read aloud. All of us love to read classics, inspirational books, living books, historical fictions, and...well, we all love to read alone or together. We enjoy hands-on learning. We love to build things, cook delicious food, make dioramas, dress up, act things out, experiment, and create our own radio shows. We enjoy making music together. Many of my children play instruments and we all sing. Shine and Jimmy can also mix sound. We love to sing together! We enjoy ministry. We are involved in evangelism, making disicples, and serving in our local church. We like to minister together and help one another grow in Christ. We love to read the Word and share what God shows us. We pray together, especially when we face hard times. I could go on and on for hours. We have loved homeschooling our children. And all our children want to homeschool their own children. That says a lot!
